I like Socrative, and I think it will be fun to use in 5th grade. I could use it as a pre or post assessment in any subject. Another way to use it would be to have a review game using space race, and let the students practice before a test.
I'm not getting a comment window so I am replying. I would use Socrative for pretests, tests and test reviews. It would also be used for data collection and class voting. I think students could make their own and share with other for reveiwing topics as well.
iMovie is great! This will be a really fun thing for 5th graders to play with and document their learning/creativity.
There are many ways I would use Edmodo in class. For management purposes, I liked the idea of using it to post missing assignments or assignments for students who were absent. I also like the idea of grouping students and assigning different assignments for each group. It's an easy and discreet way of grouping by ability or interest level. Lastly, I would use Edmodo to set up book groups. Students could read at their own pace and have conversations and complete assignments all on Edmodo.
I would use Socrative in my class to get a quick per-assessment of what students know prior to beginning a unit in any subject. I also like the feature of the exit slip so you can see what knowledge was gained in a class or where to go next. I did not like how the instructor preferred the teacher pace model. That seems to defeat the purpose of studen-lead instruction. I could see kids getting very impatient with waiting for a teacher to assign questions during a quiz.
I love iMovie. It is much easier to use than other programs I have tried in the past. And it can be great for kids to use in class with a variety of projects. I think it can be most useful in language arts with doing different types of book reports or writing pieces. My iMovie is soon to come. I will post the you tube link soon.
